FEBRUARY THE 14TH

Hello people, so for some time now, I’ve been MIA and that’s ‘cause I had to embark on an important journey. I’m here now, I mean there’s no way in the world I was going to miss making a post on Valentine’s Day. Everybody has been so anxious about this day for some time and I for one, have been anticipating it since last year in fact lol, don’t judge me. Not like anything special is going to happen on the day really [I don’t mean to be a kill-joy but I’ve been anticipating the whole celebration generally]. For those of us who don’t know the history of how this day came about, there are a lot of myths and stories but I think this one in particular is quite popular and maybe the closest we’d ever get to the real story (If there’s actually one)…

On February 14 around the year 278A.D. Valentine, a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II, was executed. Under the rule of Claudius the Cruel, Rome was involved in many unpopular and bloody campaigns. The emperor had to maintain a strong army, but was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. Claudius believed that Roman men were unwilling to join the army because of their strong attachment to their wives and families.

To get rid of the problem, Claudius banned all marriages and engagements in Rome. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Valentine was arrested and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. The sentence was carried out on February 14, on or about the year 270.

Legend also has it that while in jail, St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it “From Your Valentine.”

That’s about that…

So, this post doesn’t have to be so serious. The major event that takes place on this day is showing love through giving of gifts, cards, going on fancy dinner dates, couples getting all loved up and all of that, lots of flowers everywhere. You also see some guys complaining that their girlfriends are demanding too much, some will look for all means to break up before valz, some believe the gifting is meant to be done by the both parties, others believe so much importance doesn’t have to be placed on valentine because everyday in their relationship can be valentine, no particular day needs to be picked to show love and a host of funny stories.

Bottom line, show love. If you have no val, show yourself love, spoil yourself, take yourself out, who knows you might find someone lurking around the corner. Define how you want to be loved and be content with that. Don’t be jealous over anybody, life is never that serious. I can actually relate to the over-whelming feeling of loneliness that happens due to the pressure of too many lovers or supposed lovers around you.All the same, A VERY HUGE SHOUT-OUT!!! TO ALL THE SINGLE-LADIES GOING TO CUDDLE THEIR PILLOWS TODAY[lol] LOVE IN YOUR OWN SPECIAL WAY. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY.
