The Official Language of Gabon is French which is the lingua franca of the people. There are over 40 languages which are spoken in Gabon with most of these languages being of Bantu family origin.

The most popular and spoken language in Gabon is the Fang language which is the native language of the Fang tribe, the largest ethnic group in Gabon. Fang is regarded as Gabon’s national language.

The Fang language falls under the Niger-Congo family and is spoken by more than 30% of the population in Gabon as their first language otherwise called mother tongue.

The Fang language is also spoken in neighboring countries, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.
