CLOTHING OF THE SENEGALESE PEOPLE

SEASON 4 EPISODE 9

The physical appearance of people matters as it depicts class, society, tribe and many more and it is important for people to look good.

Most people in the Republic of Senegal have switched to the western clothing style. Men wear T-shirts, trousers, suits, ties depending on the occasion. Women can be seen wearing dresses as it is rare to see women wear pants or trousers.

For most traditional attires, loose-fitting cotton clothing is called BOUBOU. Boubous have large openings at the end which reach knee or ankle length and are worn for different occasions created in different styles and sizes.

A complete boubou attire comprises a three-piece clothing; a tunic, trousers and boubou.
