Independence Square

Independence Square is located in the city of Accra and is also known as the Black Star Square. This monument is a symbol of the historic struggle, fight, and resilience for freedom from colonialism in the past.

It was at this place, on the 6th of March, 1957 that President Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana stood to declare the country’s liberation from colonial rule. Independence Square is a place of national pride and honour. This place is a centre for hosting of ceremonies and events from time to time.

Cape Coast Castle

An enchanting place to visit in Ghana is the Cape Coast Castle which is situated on the central coastline of Ghana. Cape Coast Castle was originally called Cabo Corso by the Portuguese and is known to be a former European colonial capital in Africa. It is one of the slave castles and the largest one which houses the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade in Ghana.

This site is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites where one can feel the sombre history of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade times, a reminder of the severe sufferings encountered and endured during those dark times.

Lake Bosumtwe

If you’re fortunate enough to visit multiple places during your trip to Ghana, you should definitely consider including Lake Bosumtwe. This serene lake is surrounded by lush green vegetation and hills, located just a few kilometers away from Kumasi.

This serene body of water measures over 80 meters in depth and is believed to have formed when a large meteorite struck the surface of the Earth.

Kakum National Park

Kakum National Park, an abode of rich biodiversity and located in the Assin Attandanso Reserve, is one of the most visited places in Ghana. The vibrant colours of lush green vegetation, chirping of birds, sounds of animals, and strong smell of nature are proof that this park is blessed.

One of the unique features of the Kakum National Park is the canopy walkway which is 333-metres long and is suspended about 27 metres above the forest ground. This canopy walkway allows panoramic view of the surroundings.

Kakum National Park is enriched with over 300 species of birds. One can also sight butterflies, forest elephants, bongos, leopards and other animals.

The forest has wild life which can be seen in the night and professional guides are always available to take you on a guided night tour.

Accra

One sure place to visit whenever you touch down in Ghana is the forever vibrant capital city, Accra which is a well-known gateway into the country and stands as the largest city in the West African country, Accra.

This city which is home to over two million people can be seen to blend culture, modernity and history together with a mix of bustling streets, lively markets, social centres and historical sites which can be dated to colonial times.

Situated in downtown Accra, is the Memorial Park and Mausoleum of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah who is a leading figure for the country’s fight for Independence from its colonial masters.

You absolutely cannot miss checking out the beaches in Accra! Coco and Labadi beaches are like, totally awesome places to kick back, soak up the sun, and catch a breathtaking sunset.
